Educating for the future
The learning journey at St John Vianney's honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
The key learning areas
We follow the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) approved curriculum in the key learning areas of:
Religious Education
As a Catholic school we also have a strong religious dimension that runs through all the KLAs and is also formally recognised as the KLA of Religious Education.
St John Vianney's students take part in formal Religious Education every day, based on the new Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese curriculum, Encountering Jesus. This curriculum invites all students to consider how the teachings of Jesus Christ can apply to their lives.
Prayer is integral to our school life. The whole school community begins and ends every day with prayer and we pray the Angelus daily at midday. Students have many opportunities to pray the rosary, participate in confession and other liturgical celebrations.
Religious Education
St John Vianney's is proud of our expert teachers who work together to meet our students' needs.
The learning spaces at St John Vianney's are designed to enhance the learning opportunities of our students. Students will learn how to work both independently and as part of a small or large group depending on the task at hand.As the building blocks for all learning, we have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout our learning and teaching programs.
Literacy
St John Vianney's provides a comprehensive and rigorous program of reading and writing education and oral language development. Students have daily opportunities to engage in listening, reading, and writing activities, enriched by contemporary resources and a diverse range of literature.
We have adopted the 'uninterrupted literacy block' model that offers a proven system of literacy education in dedicated classroom time.
Our reading intervention programs provide for students with literacy challenges. With individualised and small group support from a specialist teacher, children can quickly become confident readers and writers.Numeracy
Every day, students participate in dedicated numeracy sessions so they can develop a strong foundation in mathematics.
Teachers utilise evidence-based teaching methods and ‘hands on’ resources to solidify understanding of mathematical concepts. Students learn how to identify patterns and relationships as well as calculation, measurement, algebra, measurement and geometry.
Students who experience difficulties with maths can receive assistance through our small group intervention program.
We offer a varied curriculum that is engaging and relevant!
