Recycling01

Earlier in the term, as part of their Project Based Learning, Year 4 took a trip to the BINGO Recycling Centre in Auburn.

BINGO is a waste-management company operating across New South Wales and Victoria who provided our Year 4 students with a behind-the-scenes look at their recycling operations.

Students had the opportunity to view a variety of machinery used to move waste, as well as the conveyor belts that are used to sort recycling into the appropriate categories. Year 4 also had a look at the various kinds of storage facilities, depending on the type of recyclable object.

The staff from BINGO toured students through the facility where Year 4 asked a variety of questions for their projects, for example, is it possible to recycle a house?

Year 4 learned that the answer is YES - they worked with the BINGO staff to take apart a model house and sort the objects into different categories of recycling - they also found out how many people they could fit inside!

Towards the end of our tour we created flow charts which show where different material comes from and where it can be recycled.

We finished off the day by stopping at Prospect Reservoir for lunch where we saw one of Sydney’s main water storage centres, and discovered how it was built for purpose.
